We were fortunate to purchase 5001 from Colyer Herefords to add another quality horned sire to our program.  He is the first son in Canada of the Denver Supreme Champion and World Record Selling “C MILES MCKEE 2103 ET”.  Characteristics we believe distinguish “5001” are his additional frame, phenotypic performance, length of body, skeletal integrity, center body dimension and balance.  Moreover, he is conservatively marked and stems from elite cows with exceptional udder structure and quality.  Genetically-the milk, ribeye, maternal calving ease and carcass merit predictions should prove useful in our breeding program.

We have been big fans of the “CRR 719 CATAPULT 109” progeny for the last couple years and have intended to own a son.  “549” was purchased privately from Coyote Ridge Ranch at the National Western Stock Show in Denver.  His additional length of bone, skeletal extension and potential for future growth made us favour him in the yards pen.  Beyond that, he is straight lined, sound structured, muscular and complete.  He is red eyed, short marked and measured a large scrotal circumference in Denver, considering his age.  Genetically, his calving ease and birth weight figures suggest use on heifers, while his weaning and yearling predictions shouldn’t sacrifice performance when used on cows.  His aged dam is long, big ribbed and exhibits desirable udder quality in terms of levelness and milk flow.

“6060” was purchased from Colyer Herefords for his combination of pigment, maternal strength, excellent multi-trait genetic profile and visual completeness.  “6060 is Heterozygous Polled and extremely short marked with a big red eye, neck and legs.  His dam is a terrific uddered first calf heifer sired by “Trust” and has now entered Colyer’s donor program.  Genetically, 6060 has a sizeable spread from birth to yearling, breed leading milk, udder quality, maternal calving ease and carcass figures.

We were pleased to purchase “FAMOUS” from the DeCorby family of Section 7 Ranch.  As a proven bull with quality progeny, we believe his strengths will perfectly complement our herd needs at this time.  He is moderate framed, big ribbed, muscular and sound structured fundamentally.  More impressive though, he has tremendous pigment including his cheeks, neck, legs, testicles and sheath.  “FAMOUS” is large testicled and correctly suspended.  From a dam standpoint, his mother is a powerful, big bodied, stout female.  His true value may lie in his genetic predictions, which we believe can really advance our operation and provide incredible breeding flexibility.  He is a trait leader for virtually every trait, with a proven record of siring low-birth weight progeny that grow tremendously fast. Moreover, he ranks in the top 1% for Marbling, which will provide a great carcass tandem with the Ribeye already in the cattle.

We acquired 4061 to bolster performance, muscle and stoutness-without sacrificing maternal excellence.  He is among the highest performing bulls the Colyer program has bred, with a February sale weight approaching 1600 lbs.  His stoutness of bone, width of skeleton, natural muscle shape and center body dimension should all be breeding assets.  Moreover the udder quality and high Milk EPD’s apparent on both sides of the pedigree should add value to his replacement females.  4061 also covers the more tangible qualities of being big testicled, red eyed and red legged.  He ranks in breed’s top 5% for WW, YW,M & REA; top 1% for M&G.

We have kept “HURLEY” as a breeding tool based on physical merit and the productivity of his dam.  We believe his structural integrity, balance, muscle and center body dimension will be breeding assets.  Moreover, his dam is among our most premier cows with a high quality udder and desirable body mass.  Hurley should transmit desirable growth, mass, skeleton and ribeye area to a set of calves.  His initial use will likely be on a variety of commercial, Angus and Hereford females.

We recently purchased CHECKPOINT privately from Crittenden Bros. of Imperial, SK.  60C is an attractive, sound structured Homozygous Polled bull that excels in natural muscle dimension and expression.  His paternal pedigree comprises cattle with exceptional performance and muscle.  Yet, the bottom side of his pedigree offers maternal productivity, udder quality and female character.  Checkpoint is wide based, stout stifled and deep sided while remaining red legged, red necked and red testicled.  We intend to utilize him post-AI on an assortment of polled cows and heifers to reinforce that component of our program.
